Ana Rita Monteiro (ARM) holds an Integrated Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (University Fernando Pessoa, 2015) and a second Master’s degree in Analytical, Clinical and Forensic Toxicology (Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, 2022). Her academic path has been strongly linked to the study of synthetic and natural compounds with potential health benefits. During her second master’s thesis, ARM gained experience in cell-based screening of molecules for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
In 2023, ARM joined the FoodPhenoLab group as a Research Intern within the VIIAFOOD project, expanding her research to the field of dietary bioactives and their role in metabolic health. She is currently a PhD student in the Doctoral Program in Food Science and Technology and Nutrition. Her research explores how fermented fruit juices and their metabolites, particularly (poly)phenols, can modulate the gut-brain axis and support neuroprotection, and is conducted in collaboration with LAQV-REQUIMTE@FCUP, NOVA Medical School, and Sumol+Compal Marcas, S.A.
ARM is first author of four scientific papers, co-author of two book chapters, and has contributed to several scientific communications presented at national and international meetings. She has also received two Best Poster Communication awards in the Health Sciences area at IJUP 2022 and 2023.
Passionate about bridging food, science, and health, ARM aims to contribute to innovative strategies for chronic disease prevention and health promotion.
