Iva Fernandes graduated in Biochemistry in 2006 and obtained her PhD in Chemistry in 2012 both at the University of Porto (Portugal).

She is currently a Post-Doctoral research at the REQUIMTE/LAQV at the Faculty of Science at the University of Porto.

Her field of research concerns food chemistry, nutritional biochemistry and bioactivity. She has been involved in some research projects funded essentially by the Portuguese Government. One of her main areas of research deals with the bioavailability, biological activity and metabolism of polyphenols detected in red or Port wines and their putative applications as nutraceuticals. More recently, she has been involved in projects dealing with the absorption and metabolization of wine polyphenols in rats and human volunteers.
